
Kipper Nearly Perfect in Two-Hit Masterpiece

Tulsa, OK - The Arkansas Travelers blanked the Tulsa Drillers 3-0 on Tuesday night at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.
RHP Jordan Kipper (W, 2-0) tossed eight two-hit, scoreless innings for Arkansas. The righty did not issue a walk, retired 16 in-a-row at one point and induced 17 groundouts, including at least two in all eight innings. Kipper lowered his season ERA to 1.73 through four starts.
RHP Geoff Broussard (S,2) struck out two in the ninth to pick up his second save of the season.
The Travs scored two in the first and one in the second to jump out to the 3-0 lead. LF Bo Way singled to start the game and advanced to third on a 2B Sherman Johnson double. The two scored on an 1B Eric Aguilera RBI single and DH Wade Wass groundout.
SS Anthony Phillips' sacrifice fly in the second scored 3B Alex Yarbrough and gave Arkansas the three-run advantage.
The Travs reached base nine more times over the next seven innings but were held off the board after the second inning.
Johnson also drew two walks in the game and has reached base successfully in 20 of his last 34 plate appearances.
C Anthony Bemboom entered the game 3-for-32 on the season and finished 3-for-4 on Tuesday.
RHP Felipe Gonzalez (L, 0-4) started the game for the Drillers and worked four innings. He surrendered the three runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Tulsa's bullpen did not allow a run over its five innings of work.
With the win, Arkansas improved to 8-10 on the season and moved to within two games of the Springfield Cardinals atop the Texas League North division. The Travs and Drillers are scheduled to play game three of the four-game series on Wednesday morning in Tulsa. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m.
