
Schwindel Homers Again in Naturals Loss at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Northwest Arkansas Naturals (7-12) dropped game three of the four-game series to the Springfield Cardinals (11-8) on Wednesday afternoon, 8-1. First baseman, Frank Schwindel clubbed his third home run of the season and second in as many days in the ninth inning to provide the lone run.
Starter, Jake Junis (1-2, 6.75) gave up back-to-back hits to lead off the bottom of the first inning; but quickly settled in retiring the next seven straight batters - six via the strikeout. But A two-run home run by Luke Voit in the third inning gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead, and the host team did not look back.
Springfield plated three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the seventh en route to the win.
Right-hander Benino Pruneda entered in relief of Junis in the fourth inning to get the final out. The Houston, Texas native retired seven of the eight batters he faced and struck out two. Junis lated 3.2 inning and fanned a season-high eight hitters, allowing five runs on eight hits.
Schwindel finished the game 2-for-4 with a homer and his first double of the year. Third baseman Hunter Dozier hit his team-leading seventh double of the season in a 2-for-4 showing while Ramon Torres collected a pair of hits on the afternoon as well.
The Naturals wrap up the series against the Cardinals on Thursday, April 28 at Hammons Field with a 7:10 p.m. first pitch. Left-hander Eric Skoglund (1-1, 4.11) makes his fourth start of the season against right-hander Corey Baker (1-0, 1.76) taking the mound for the Cardinals.
