NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 5)- A week after the announcement of starting in the CHL All-Star game, Brahmas defenseman Justin Kinnunen has been named the Player of the Week for the CHL for the week of December 31-January 3.

Kinnunen, known for his strong defensive skills, registered the Brahmas first hat trick of the season Saturday against the Laredo Bucks. The Negaunee, MI native posted a goal at even strength, on the powerplay and shorthanded to give him the scoring trifecta. The last time a defenseman scored a hat trick for the Brahmas dates back to December 26, 1999 when Gatis Tseplis put up three goals against Corpus Christi.

The lone representative for the Brahmas at the All-Star game's knack for scoring helped lead the Brahmas to a 3-0 record for the week. Kinnunen also had an assist over the weekend.

"It is great to see Justin be recognized for his incredible efforts this past week. He is a catalyst on both ends of the ice, and we look forward to what he will bring to the team for the remainder of the season," said Brahmas Head Coach Dan Wildfong.

Kinnunen and the Brahmas will take their game on the road this week starting in Tulsa Tuesday night to face the Oilers for a 7:05 PM faceoff at the new BOK Center. Wednesday Texas takes on the Oklahoma City Blazers at 7:10 PM and the Mississippi RiverKings Saturday night at 7:05 PM.
