Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Marco Emond has been named the Oakley/CHL Goaltender of the Week for the second consecutive week. It is the first time since the 2003-04 season that a goaltender has won the award in back-to-back weeks.

In his last three contests, the Valleyfield, Quebec, native has allowed just three goals on 113 shots for a .974 save percentage, helping his club extend a season-high win streak to five games.

Emond started the week with a 4-1 win over rival the New Mexico Scorpions on New Year's Eve, stopping 42 of 43 shots, including 17 in the final frame. He then followed Wednesday night's outing with a 28-save performance on Saturday in the Sundogs' 3-1 win over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. On Sunday, the 11-year pro recorded his 12th win of the season, stopping 40 of 41 shots in Arizona's 3-1 win over the Northern Conference's second-best club, the Oklahoma City Blazers.

Allowing just four goals in his last five appearances, Emond first caught fire in a 3-0 shutout win over expansion club the Rapid City Rush on Friday, Dec. 26, stopping 29 shots faced. Through his last five games, the veteran netminder has turned aside 172 of 176 shots for a .977 save percentage.

Emond is 12-9-1 on the year with a 3.30 goals against average and a .902 save percentage and currently ranks second in the CHL in both saves (693) and minutes played (1362). His 12 wins rank tied-for-fourth and his three shootout wins are the most in the league.

With Emond's strong play in net, Arizona sits just eight points back of Laredo for third place in the Southern Conference and 14 points back of conference leader the Odessa Jackalopes.

Arizona is currently riding a five-game win streak and will next take on the Wichita Thunder on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at the Kansas Coliseum in Wichita, Kan. Game time is set for 6:05pm (Arizona time) but will be tape-delayed until 7:00pm on 96.7 FM The Wolf, the Official Broadcast Home of the Arizona Sundogs.
