Arizona Sundogs News Release
The Arizona Sundogs are currently riding a season-high five-game win streak which has seen them climb to just one game below .500 at 16-17-1. In that span, Arizona and goaltender Marco Emond have allowed just four goals while tallying 15. The Sundogs currently sit 14 points back of division-leader Odessa, a club they will face in a two-game set at Tim's Toyota Center this weekend.
Sundogs Storylines:
- Goaltender Marco Emond has backstopped his club to a season-best five-game win streak, having allowed just four goals in that span, including a 3-0 shutout against the Rapid City Rush on Dec. 26. The veteran netminder has been voted the game's first star in each of the last five contests, earning him the Oakley CHL Three Stars Award for the month of December. Emond ranks third overall in three stars voting with 32 points (6-0-2). The Valleyfield, Quebec, native is 12-9-1 on the year with a 3.30 goals against average and a .902 save percentage. Emond ranks at the top of some of the league's goalie statistical categories. His 12 wins rank tied-for-fourth, his nearly 1362 minutes are enough for second-most, his 693 saves rank second-best and his three shootout wins are most in the league.
- Martin Gascon ranks second in scoring for Arizona with 37 points (7g/30a). His 30 assists rank tied-for-third in the CHL and first among his teammates. The Ville St. Pierre, Quebec, native assisted on each of Arizona's three goals in a 3-1 win over Oklahoma City on Sunday, Jan. 4. His 20 power play assists rank second in the CHL.
- Joel Irving was recently named a starter for the CHL All-Star Team, leading all forwards in votes with 26. The veteran forward is tied for league lead in goals with 23 and ranks tied-for-sixth overall in points with 43. Irving is currently riding a two-game point streak, having recorded the game-winner in a 3-1 over Oklahoma City on Sunday, Jan. 4.
- Forward Karl Sellan leads the league in several categories including PIMs (255), minor penalty minutes (50), majors (19) and shooting percentage (.306). The Montreal, Quebec, native had a four-game point streak snapped in a 3-1 win over Oklahoma City on Sunday, Jan. 4. The third-year forward ranks second on the team and third in the league with 22 goals on the year, one shy of his career-high set during his rookie campaign in 2006-07. His 11 power play goals also rank third in the CHL.
- Sundogs defensemen Chris Bartolone and Jon Landry rank 3-4 in defensive scoring with 26 and 25 points respectively. Landry's nine goals rank third overall among d-men while Bartolone's 22 helpers are tied-for-first in the league among blue-liners.
- Adam Perry was assigned to the Sundogs by the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL and joined the team on 11/19 in Odessa. The 21-year-old rookie made an immediate impact on the offensive end, scoring his first pro goal in his Sundogs debut, a 7-4 win in Odessa. Perry ranks third overall in rookie scoring with 33 points (12g/21a) despite having played in eight less games than rookie leader Darryl Smith (38 points). The Peterborough, Ontario, native had a six-game point streak snapped in a 3-1 win over Oklahoma City on Sunday, Jan. 4. Perry has been held off the score sheet in just four games this season. His two shorthanded tallies and .211 shooting percentage are tops among active rookies in the league. Adam's older brother Corey plays for the Anaheim Ducks, and was the 28th overall draft pick in the 2003 NHL draft.
