Kingsport Axmen News Release
KINGSPORT, TN - The Kingsport Axmen topped the Danville Otterbots, 2-1, Thursday evening at Hunter Wright Field.
With rain picking up with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, the tarp was rolled onto the field. After a 38-minute weather delay, the contest was called final.
The Axmen (11-13) scored two runs in the first inning and never looked back.
Kingsport's catcher Anthony Tulimero, who was playing in his first game since June 18, lined a two-run single into centerfield to break the ice.
Danville (10-14) responded with a tally in the following frame, scratching across a run on a fielder's choice.
Matt Mulhearn cruised through four innings, surrendering just one run. The right-hander struck out five, including three straight punchouts in the opening inning.
Patrick Strawbridge (2-2) pitched a scoreless fifth to earn the win.
Kingsport will look to sweep the two-game series at 7 p.m. Friday night.
All Kingsport Axmen games are broadcast with a video stream available online for home games.
