Evansville Otters News Release
Kalamazoo, MIâ The Kalamazoo Kings scored 10 runs in the first inning and then had to hang on late to defeat the Evansville Otters 11-9.
The Otters started off the game well scoring three in the first. Frank Scott walked to lead off the game, the first of four walks in the game for Scott, tying a franchise record. Denver Stuckey then singled, followed by an Andrew Davie double to make it 2-0. Following a deep flyout by David Trujillo moving Davie to third, O. J. Garza hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
The lead was short lived, however, as the Kings posted 10 runs in the bottom of the inning, keyed by homeruns off the bats of Luis Espinoza and Fehlandt Lentini. Evansville came right back in the second scoring four to make it a 10-7 game.
With the game 11-8 heading into the eighth, the Otters loaded the bases with one out. David Trujillo hit a deep sacrifice fly moving everyone up a base to make it an 11-9 game. Garza then lined a deep shot into left center field that appeared destined to tie the game. However, it was not to be as Daryl Blaze raced back and made the catch running at full tilt to end the inning and preserve the lead.
The Otters send Jeremy Lewis to the mound tomorrow in the getaway game of the series against Lee Naplin for the Kings.
