Manchester Monarchs News Release

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have claimed defenseman Kyle Quincey off waivers from Detroit, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. In addition, the Kings have placed defenseman Jack Johnson on the injured reserve list with a shoulder injury.

Last season Quincey, 23, had zero points and four penalty minutes in six games for the Red Wings and 20 points (5-15=20) in 66 games for the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins.

The 6-foot-2, 206-pound native of Kitchener, Ontario was drafted by Detroit in the fourth round (132nd overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. In 13 career NHL regular season games he has one point (1-0=1) and four penalty minutes. Quincey, who will wear jersey No. 27 with the Kings, has also suited up for 13 postseason games with the Red Wings, accumulating zero points and two penalty minutes. Before turning pro in 2005-06, Quincey played three years in the Ontario Hockey League with London and Mississauga.

Johnson, 21, was injured in the first period of the Kings-San Jose Sharks game last night at STAPLES Center. He is expected to be out of action two to three months because of the injury.

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound native of Indianapolis, Indiana has appeared in 81 career NHL regular season games - all with the Kings - and has 11 career points (3-8=11) and 96 career penalty minutes. He had 11 points (3-8=11) and 76 penalty minutes in 74 regular season games with the Kings last season and Johnson began his NHL career late in the 2006-07 season with Los Angeles, recording zero points and 18 penalty minutes in five games. Johnson has two penalty minutes in two games with the Kings this season.

Johnson was originally selected by Carolina in the first round (third overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by the Kings on Sept. 29, 2006 along with Oleg Tverdovsky for Eric Belanger and Tim Gleason.
