Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 17th season in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have reassigned Ned Lukacevic to the P-Bruins after acquiring the forward and a fourth round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenseman Andrew Alberts. The 2009 fourth round pick becomes a 2009 third round pick if the Flyers re-sign Alberts at the end of his contract, which expires on June 30, 2009.
With the move, Providence has 25 players on its roster, including 15 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
Lukacevic, 22, is in his fourth professional season after beginning the year with the Philadelphia Phantoms, where he did not see action in the Phantoms' first two games in 2008-09. The left wing spent all of last season in the ECHL, posting career-highs in goals (17), assists (19), points (36) and penalty minutes (52) for the Reading Royals. Lukacevic split the 2006-07 campaign between Reading and the Manchester Monarchs, scoring one goal in 12 AHL games in addition to 24 points (7g, 17a) in 53 ECHL contests.
The native of Podgorica, Serbia, made his pro debut in the 2006 postseason with Manchester, registering one goal in seven games. The AHL action came after a successful junior season with the Western Hockey League's Swift Current Broncos, where Lukacevic led his club in scoring with 25 goals and 53 points. New teammate and current P-Bruins forward Levi Nelson finished second on that 2005-06 club in goals with 21. Prior to his time in Swift Current, the AHL rookie spent parts of four seasons playing for the Spokane Chiefs, also of the WHL.
As a pro, Lukacevic has 61 points (25g, 36a) and 99 PIM in 126 games. He was originally drafted 110th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in round four of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Lukacevic had recently been traded to Philadelphia with Patrik Hersley from Los Angeles for Denis Gauthier on June 30, 2008.
Providence Bruins season tickets, Flex Tix packages and single game tickets are on sale now for the 2008-09 season. To purchase tickets or to learn more information, call the P-Bruins ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log on to the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
