Adirondack Phantoms News Release
UPCOMING OPPONENTS
Friday, October 17: Phantoms vs. Hershey Bears, 7:05 - The Phantoms start their annual 12-game battle with the Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals) this Friday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. Including this contest, the clubs will face one another seven times in October and November alone - four times in Philadelphia and three in Hershey. The Bears have rocketed out to a 3-0 start on their season, scoring 17 goals in the process, which is by far the most in the league after opening week. As a result, the Bears have four players among the league's top six scorers - Keith Aucoin with seven points, Graham Mink with six, and Chris Bourque and Alexandre Giroux with five apiece. Those four players have accounted for 10 of those 17 goals. Hershey's roster includes winger Darren Reid, who spent the last season and a half with the Phantoms.
Saturday, October 18: Phantoms vs. Binghamton Senators, 7:05 - It's the first of eight meetings between the Phantoms and Sens (Ottawa Senators) this season. Binghamton also jumped out to a perfect start with a pair of wins on the league's opening weekend. 2006 AHL All-Star Ryan Shannon is new to the Senators this year. He posted 86 points for Portland in 2005-06 before spending most of the 2006-07 season in the NHL with Anaheim. He split 2007-08 between Vancouver and Manitoba, and was traded to Ottawa for Lawrence Nycholat over the summer.
Sunday, October 19: Phantoms at Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 4:00 - The Phantoms head north for a return engagement with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (New York Islanders) on Sunday afternoon. Friday's opener in Philadelphia was the first of a three-game in three-night opening weekend road trip for Bridgeport. The Tigers doubled up Albany on Saturday night and then picked up a point in a shootout loss to Hartford on Sunday. Mike Iggulden and Kurtis McLean, two newcomers to Bridgeport being leaned on for offensive production, scored four and three points, respectively, over the opening weekend.
PHANTOMS TO CELEBRATE MILITARY NIGHT FRIDAY
The Phantoms are honoring all former and active members of the armed forces this Friday night during the game against Hershey, which is Military Night at the Wachovia Spectrum. All personnel with a military ID can get into the game for free on Friday. In addition, the Phantoms are welcoming the U.S. Marine Corps to the game, and a video camera will be available for fans to record messages to troops overseas.
FRIDAY IS VP NIGHT WITH THE PHANTOMS
The Phantoms will take a stand for the second in command on Saturday with VP Night at the Spectrum. Fun events planned for the evening include a patriotic theme on the concourse, half-price admission for anyone from Delaware or Alaska, and much more. The game will begin with AHL vice president of communications Jason Chaimovitch dropping the ceremonial first puck between the alternate captains of the Phantoms and the Binghamton Senators.
Tickets are still available for both games this weekend, which are the last opportunities to see the Phantoms at home in October! Information is available at phantomshockey.com.
A GRAND OPENING
The Phantoms dropped the puck in a memorable way on their final season in the Wachovia Spectrum, which is scheduled for demolition next summer. On hand for the game were former NHL players Ab McDonald and Lou Angotti. During the 1967-68 season, Angotti was the captain of the Flyers and McDonald captained the Pittsburgh Penguins. Those two teams played the first NHL game at the Spectrum on October 19, 1967, and Angotti and McDonald took the first ceremonial puck drop from NHL president Clarence Campbell. At the opener, Angotti and McDonald re-enacted that historic puck drop, with Bernie Parent handling the duties of dropping the puck.
