
Sharks Have A Devilish Opener In Lowell

10.11.08 - Worcester 4 - Lowell 6 - Tsongas Arena
Cory Larose scored two goals in his first game with the Worcester Sharks but Devils rookie Matt Halischuk recorded the golden sombrero (4 goals) as the Sharks tumbled 6-4 to the Devils in Lowell on Saturday night. Mike Morris and Frazer McLaren also scored for the Sharks. Six of the ten goals scored were recorded on special teams; as the Sharks scored two power play goals and the Devils scored three on the man advantage and a short handed tally. Sharks captain Ryan Vesce added two assist while Thomas Greiss made 28 saves in net. Worcester outshot Lowell 43-34. Former Worcester Ice Cat Jon DiSalvatore picked up four assists for the Devils. The game got nasty in the third period as three fights broke out in the final 12 minutes of the game (Moore, Demers, Cavanagh).

The Sharks (0-1-0-0) swim in sixth place with 0 points in the Atlantic Division, four points behind the first-place Providence Bruins.
Sharks Bites:
*C Cory Larose scored two goals in the first period in his debut for the Worcester Sharks. The ninth season professional, scored a career high 32 goals with the Houston Aeros in 2001-02.
*RW Ryan Vesce recorded two assists in his first game in a Sharks uniform. The Lloyd Harbor, NY native was named the second captain in team history earlier in the week.
*D Rookie Jason Demers recorded an assist in his first professional game and also picked up 11 penalty minutes including a major penalty for fighting against Lowell's Tyler Eckford.
*LW Rookie Frazer McLaren recorded his first professional goal midway through the second period against the Devils.

*The San Jose Sharks re-assigned veteran defenseman Kyle McLaren to the Worcester Sharks on Wednesday. The NHL veteran of 719 NHL games, has never played a game in the AHL. McLaren, a former first round draft pick by the Boston Bruins in 1995, is expected to practice with the Worcester Sharks on Tuesday and could possibly make his AHL debut with the Sharks in Glens Falls on Friday against the Devils.

Worcester to host the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications!
The Sharks and the city of Worcester will host the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications on January 25th and 26th at the DCU Center. Tickets will be on sale to the general public on Saturday, October 18th at 12 p.m. The 2009 event in Worcester will mark the fourth time since it was revived in 1995 that the AHL All-Star Classic will take place in New England. The AHL All-Star Classic was last held in Massachusetts in 1959 at the Eastern States Coliseum in West Springfield.
Coming Up:
The Sharks will travel to Glens Falls in New York to battle the River Rats on Friday, October 17th at 7:30 p.m., and then return home for the team's home opener against Providence on October 18th at 7:05 p.m. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive an All-Star FINZ bobblehead and magnet schedule courtesy of Charter Communications! All fans will also be treated to a pre-game concert by Joshua Tree, a U2 tribute band! Following the game, Joshua Tree will perform at the Boston Billiard Club at Worcester!
