Kenosha Kingfish News Release

Kenosha, Wis. - It's opening week in Wisconsin in the Northwoods League presented by Edvest.

On a rainy Friday night at Joannes Stadium, the Kingfish dropped their first game of the year to the Green Bay Bullfrogs, 7-2. The game was ended after 6 innings due to rain and lightning, making the conditions unsuitable for play.

The Kingfish drew first blood in the second inning. First, a wide throw to first base allowed J.D. Hearn to score from third base. Moments later, Jack Yalowitz lifted a fly ball to the outfield which brought home Marshall Gilbert on a sacrifice fly.

The Bullfrogs then responded with seven unanswered runs. Laren Eustice got the scoring started in the third with a game-tying two run blast to right field. The Bullfrogs then took the lead in the fourth with a lone run then added four in the 6th before the game was called.

Cole Erickson took the mound for the Kingfish. He worked 5 innings, surrendered 4 hits, 3 earned runs, and a walk while striking out three. Erickson was given credit for the loss on the evening.

Offensively, the Kingfish had a tough day at the plate. J.D. Hearn and Marshall Gilbert each tallied one base hit and accounted for both Kingfish hits on the night. Gunnar McNeill was able to draw a pair of walks as well.

The Kingfish are back home for a weekend series against Waterloo before heading to Kalamazoo on Monday.
