After scoring 26 runs in their first three games of the season, the Mallards were looking for a pitcher to make a strong impression on this team. Colin Brockhouse (Ball State) came through in a big way on the mound, turning in a gem in the Mallards first home game of opening week, an 8-3 win over Rockford, presented by Edvest.

The Indiana-born right-hander took a no-hitter into the 7th inning, just two nights after starting at 3rd base. He finished with 6.1 innings of work, one hit, and one earned run on the way to his first win of 2016. Brockhouse struck out seven on 90 pitches, eventually handing the ball over to the bullpen.

"I didn't even realize I had a no-hitter," said Brockhouse. "I was just in the zone and ready to go."

The bats continued to tear opposing pitchers apart, finishing the night with 11 hits, including Lucas Halstead's (Pacific) first home run of 2016. Halstead hammered a line drive over the short porch in right field in the fourth inning.

Rockford was able to shorten the lead in the 7th, after a one out double from Neal Tyrell (Lewis University). That was Rockford's first hit of the night, and knocked Brockhouse out of the game. Donnie Scott handed the ball to Mitch Vogrin, who gave up two runs of his own.

It wouldn't matter though, as the Rivets never got another chance to score. On top of that, the Mallards grabbed two more runs in the 8th to close out the win. It was a night where hitting and pitching were both clicking on every level.

Cole Bellair (Illinois) took the loss after not allowing a base runner through the first two frames. Wild pitches and a hot Mallards lineup ended up being his downfall.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Monday, June 6th to take on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The game will feature a Chet's Car Care magnet schedule giveaway. The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board will also sponsor Dairy night, with dairy themed promotions and giveaways. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
