June 13, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Kenosha, WI. - The night began just the way the Kingfish hoped it would: with a win.
P.J. Schuster took the mound to get things started for the Kingfish and threw a gem. He lasted 6.0 IP and allowed one run off of four hits while striking out five, bringing his ERA down to 2.63 in the process. Garrett McKenzie followed his lead, tossing a final scoreless frame in the first of the two shortened double header games.
The Kingfish went step for step with the Loggers from La Crosse through the first five innings, as the game was all knotted up at 1 apiece. The Kingfish would take it from there. First Hunter Alexander brought home a run, then Jason Scholl blasted a two run bomb over the right field wall. The Kingfish didn't quit there as in the seventh they sent twelve batters to the plate and brought home six runs. Alex Borglin, Hunter Alexander, and Zach Weigel all had a pair of hits a piece while Alexander, Jason Scholl and Brody Westmoreland brought home two runs each. The Kingfish cruised to a 10-1 victory in the first game to extend their win streak to eight.
The streak would be snapped in the next game a half hour later, however. La Crosse struck first with a run via a groundout in the second inning. The Kingfish returned the favor as Brody Westmoreland hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to bring the contest back to all square. In the bottom of the fourth, however, both Aex Merritt and Mason McCoy hit sacrifice flies of their own to bring home a pair of runs and put the Loggers up 3-1. Nick Sergakis would single home a run in the fifth inning and the Kingfish would eventually load the bases but could not push across any more runs. The final score would read a 3-2 defeat for the Kingfish to end the night.
Trevor Haas started on the mound and lasted 3.1 IP and surrender three runs while Ryan Orr and JR Holloway combined for 2.2 IP of scoreless ball. Only five Kingfish got into the hit column with Alex Borglin collecting a pair of base hits and both Nick Sergakis and Brody Westmoreland picking up RBIs. The Kingfished dropped the second game but still maintain their first place position in the Northwoods League South Division. The Kingfish are back in action Saturday night at 6:05 ET as they host the Wisconsin Woodchucks.
