Kingfish Pitching Prevails in Road Sweep of Growlers
June 2, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Kalamazoo, MI. - The Kingfish received yet another fantastic performance from their starting pitcher. Today, it was Andrew Zapata's turn to shine and he did just that. Carrying a no-hitter into the 8th inning, Zapata ultimately finished with a stat line of zero earned runs, two hits allowed and seven strikeouts.
The right-hander allowed both of his hits and a walk in the 8th, so Manager Duffy Dyer turned to Callahan Brown to get his team out of the jam and finish the job. The UConn dynamic duo proved a perfect one-two punch as Brown got out of the jam and shut the door en route to a 6-0 victory.
The Kingfish offense exploded for a five run first inning, sending all nine hitters to the plate. Hunter Alexander got the show on the road with an RBI single. Zach Ratcliff followed his lead with a 2-RBI double and was complemented by Alex Borglin who came up next at bat and slapped an RBI single to left. A dropped third strike allowed a fifth run in the form of Ratcliff to score moments later.
Eric Filia hit an RBI double in the top of the second, and after that the Kingfish would be held scoreless. That quietness of the bats after the second proved irrelevant as the Kingfish coasted to a 6-0 victory and a road series sweep of the Growlers.
The Kingfish will hit the road tomorrow morning to head to Battle Creek to begin the final stretch of their Michigan road trip against the Bombers. That game will begin at 7:05 ET.
