Bullfrogs Steal a Win Late from Rafters
June 2, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- With two outs in the ninth inning, Paul Jacobson (South Dakota State), dashed from third and scored the go-ahead run giving the Bullfrogs a 2-1 lead. It surprised everyone as he chose to dart home mid-way through a lobbed throw back from the Rafters catcher, Kyle Devin (Rhode Island), to submarine pitcher, Nick Nelsen (Iowa Western CC).
On the mound, Garrett Harrison (St. Cloud State) looked like the Bullfrogs definitive ace.
He carved up Rafters batters who only totaled six hits against him over eight innings. After he fanned six batters in his first start (7.1IP/2ER), Harrison struck out eight Wisconsin Rapids opponents on Tuesday night.
Harrison only had one walk.
The Bullfrogs gave their southpaw a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Ryan Donovan smacked home an RBI single against Rafters starter, Adam Hall (Xavier). The formidable 6'6" Hall would stave off the Bullfrogs offense the remaining five innings.
The Rafters scored a game- tying run in the fourth inning after Northwoods League hitting leader, Jake Sandlin (Georgia College), scored from a Blake Molitor RBI hit.
Paul Jacobson singled in the ninth, stole second, advanced to third, and stole home with keen awareness for the go-ahead run. After Garrett Harrison approached the mound in the bottom of the inning, he had to be pulled because he had breached the 100-pitch limit.
It was not a problem for the side-winder, Jeremy Graf.
Graf, just like the night prior, shut down the Rafters 1-2-3. The Bullfrogs are now 3-4, three games behind the Madison Mallards. They play the Mallards for two games next, with the Wednesday first pitch slated for 6:35PM.
Group tickets, season tickets and 7-game packages are on sale now. The Bullfrogs off-season hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. For more information please visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com.
