Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, Minn.)-- The Rochester Honkers topped the Battle Creek Bombers 11-7 today in Battle Creek, Mich. Jason Yano (Stevens Institute) got his second win of the year to move to 2-0 for the Honkers after allowing just three hits, no walks and one run in five innings pitched. Joe DeRoche-Duffin (UCONN) was credited with the save for Rochester with 2.1 innings pitched, two strikeouts, and no hits allowed. Connor Schaefbauer (Minnesota) helped lead the potent Honkers scoring, going 2-4 at the plate, scoring two runs and also snagging two RBIs.
The Bombers surrendered 13 walks in the game which allowed the Honkers to build a 7-0 lead going into the fifth inning. Three runs by the Bombers across the fifth and sixth made it 7-3 before Rochester brought two more across the plate in the top of the seventh. Battle Creek Stormed back in the bottom of the seventh, tallying four runs against reliever Colby Green (Triton CC). The Honkers got two more in the top of the ninth, but the Bombers couldn't bring any more runs in after getting men on second and third on a passed ball, leaving the final at 11-3.
The Honkers will be back in Minnesota tomorrow but still on the road as the head to Mankato to face the MoonDogs for the final game in this five-game road trip. The Honkers opened their season at Mankato last week with a 2-0 victory.
The Honkers will finally be back at Mayo Field on Thursday, June 4th, to face Mankato again in a double header. Two seven inning games, starting at 5:05, will be played as the teams make up their postponed game from Opening Day.
