Inland Empire 66ers News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino received brilliant pitching from the duo of Brent Killam and Emilker Guzman en route to a 3-0 victory on Thursday at The Diamond. The pair of Inland Empire (4-4) hurlers combined on a two-hit, one walk shutout while fanning eight and recording the 66ers's first shutout of the 2021 campaign.
Killam (1-0) earned his first professional win going five innings and giving up just a double and a walk while striking out six batters. He was perfect through his first 3.1 innings. While the Georgetown Univ. product was dazzling, his Storm (6-3) counterpart Dwayne Matos was sublime through five perfect innings. He struck out four and tossed just 56 pitches (39 strikes) in his no-decision. Once Matos left the game, the 66ers were able to get on the board in the sixth without the benefit of a base hit. Storm reliever Ramon Perez (1-1) struggled with his command and walked the base loaded; Inland Empire took the lead when a two-run throwing error by Storm second baseman Euribiel Angeles' potential inning ending throw was wide of first base. The 66ers did not get into the hit column the seventh when Keinner Piña lined a safety to right. That was followed by a Spencer Brown double and a RBI bunt base hit by Elijah Greene for a 3-0 lead. Guzman finished off the Storm to earn his first save of the year, at one point setting down nine batters consecutively.
The series continues at Lake Elsinore on Friday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live on 66ers.com.
