Brampton Steelheads News Release

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads finished off the first half of their season with a divisional matchup against the Barrie Colts at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre on Friday night.

For Steelheads players, it was an opportunity to show off their holiday spirit as players showed up to the rink in festive attire.

The Steelheads went to the powerplay early in the first, as Aidan Prueter was tripped up at centre ice. Matthew Sredl had a breakaway coming out of the penalty box, but he was stopped by Kai Edmonds. Nic Canade came back with the puck the other way, deking out Barrie's defence and beating Jet Greaves to put the Steelheads up by one. The Steelheads headed to the powerplay again late in the first, as Tyson Foerster headed to the box for a high stick. James Hardie wired a slapshot from the hashmarks past Greaves to increase the Fish lead to two. At the end of the first, the Steelheads were leading 2-0 while Kai Edmonds stopped 9/9 shots on goal.

After a physical start to the second period, Thomas Harley took a shot that deflected off the stick of Barrie's defence and up over the shoulder of Greaves to give the Steelheads a 3-0 lead. Sredl picked up a rebound off a shot from from Aidan Brown to score for Barrie and cut the lead to two goals. Richard Whittaker found Ty Collins all alone in front of the net, who quickly redirected the pass on net past Greaves. Just a minute later, it was Whittaker again who cut to the middle of the slot and ripped a shot under the cross bar. The Steelheads offence kept rolling, as a point shot from Harley on the powerplay made it 6-1. Mississauga headed to the second intermission with a five-goal lead.

The Steelheads offence continued to pour it on in the third, as Ole Bjorgvik-Holm fired a shot from the point to score his first OHL goal. Max Dodig redirected a wristshot from Duncan Penman to make the score 8-1. Barrie would add one more, but the Steelheads would hold on for the rest of the game to win by a final score of 8-2.

It was the biggest margin of victory for the Steelheads this season, as they head into the holiday break on a hot streak. Dallas Stars prospect Thomas Harley registered 4 points (2G, 2A), setting a new career-high. Ole-Bjorgvik Holm scored the first goal of his OHL career, also adding an assist for his first career multi-point game, while Kai Edmonds recorded an assist for his first OHL point. Ty Collins (1G, 2A), Richard Whittaker (1G, 2A) and Nicholas Canade (1G, 1A) were also amongst the players who recorded multi-point games in the win.
