Windsor Spitfires News Release
The Spitfires travelled north to Sarnia for a matchup with the Sting Friday evening. This was the 2nd meeting between the two teams with Windsor taking the first game a score of 8-5.
In the first period, the Sting came out fast and brought the energy to the Spits. They had 18 shots in the period, and the Spits had 10. Sarnia scored just 7 minutes into the game and held that lead heading into the second period.
In the second frame, the Spitfires responded quickly, just 3 minutes into the period Mcdonald found the back of the net. It was Mcdonald's 8th of the season and was assisted by Johnston and Robinson. But the Sting struck back twice, once on the powerplay and once shorthanded, in the period making it 3-1 heading into the third.
In the third period, the Spitfires found themselves trailing for the 2nd night in a row. But the Spitfires rallied back...again. It was Cuylle who got his 10th on the campaign just 5 minutes into the period. The goal was unassisted. Only two and a half minutes later, it was Cole Purboo who found the twine and tied the game at 3. It was Purboo's 13th of the season, and D'Amico and Douglas assisted it. But 3 minutes after tying the game, the Sting took the lead with just 10 minutes remaining. The Sting didn't hold the lead for long, with 7 minutes remaining Corcoran scored on a shot from the point. It was Corcoran's 11th of the season. We were tied at four after 60 minutes so we were headed to overtime.
In the overtime period, it took the Spitfires 31 seconds to finish the job. D'Amico scored on a slapper that beat the netminder, winning the game for the Spitfires 5-4.
The Spitfires would like to wish everyone a very happy holiday and Merry Christmas! The next Spitfires' game is away at Saginaw on December 28th, puck drop at 7:05 pm.
