1st Period:
Ottawa controlled the play early on generating the first five shots of the period. They also generated the first goal of the period. Jack Quinn scored on an early 67s' powerplay to put the 67s up by one.
Serron Noel's presence was felt with an early decking of the halls on 67s' Thomas Johnston on a backcheck. Noel's physicality has been stepped up this season, and at 6-foot-6, his hits can cause devastation and it was felt in this instance.
A turnover in the Generals' slot left Mitchell Hoelscher with the puck alone against Paputsakis. Paps stood tall and made a sprawling save to keep the score at only a one-goal differential.
Oshawa had two powerplays late in the period, followed by a strong penalty kill.
Defensman Mitch Brewer was particularly strong with a bonecrushing hit on Yanic Crete reminiscent of Scott Stevens - but cleaner. The hit was felt by everyone in the rink, sending a resounding gasp rippling throughout the folding chairs. Check out the hit here, it is an early contender for the hit of the season.
The period ended 1-0 with the 67s doubling the Generals six shots on the period.
2nd Period:
At 3:07 into the period, Tye McSorley and Ty Tullio double teamed a 67s defender on a clean play and 67s defender Teddy Sawyer did not take kindly to it. He threw the gloves down and Ty Tullio answered the call in his first fight since his first OHL game in Kingston. Tullio made his teammates proud taking down Sawyer - who is bigger and heavier than him - showing his true Generals fighting spirit.
Austen Keating and Quinn Yule came in on a 2-on-1 forcing Paputsakis to make a couple big stops. And if that wasn't enough those chances were followed quickly by a Joseph Garraffa one-on-one that Paputsakis was just as rambunctious in stopping. Paputsakis played well throughout the first half of the game.
A powerplay in the middle of the period would yield some positive results. Serron Noel made a backcheck on a 67s breakout and caught the opposition before passing the blue line, he made a quick hand-off to Neumann who brought it in on a 3-on-1 with Allan McShane and Captain MacLean. Neumann passed to MacLean, who returned to Neumann. Neumann blasted a shot at Andree which was initially stopped, but McShane was there waiting to bury his 13th of the year.
The 67s answered quickly with an unexpected shot from Noel Hoefenmayer who retrieved the puck deep in the Generals zone and circled back on the right wall before releasing a shot. The 67s' leader, Hoefenmayer, would strike again with a blast from the point that Paputsakis got a piece of redirecting it into the orifice. The Generals made a swap in netminders sending in Andrew MacLean off the pine to finish the game.
The Generals rebounded, bringing the game to within one. Jacob Winterton grabbed the puck on a pass from Tye McSorley and sent an Eephus like lob at the net that deflected in off of the crossbar.
The game would be tied late in the period. Dawson McKinney carried the puck into the 67s zone and dropped it for Michaud. McKinney circled around the net where Michaud sent a cross crease pass to meet him. McKinney made a quick one-timer to bury his fourth of the season.
The period ended tied at threes, with the Generals making up most of their shot deficit with 21 total to the 67s' 22.
3rd Period:
For the first time in the game the shot tracker tilted in the Generals' direction. The scoreboard would also take its first lean in the Generals' direction on a successfully converted powerplay opportunity. Neumann received an east-west pass from McShane and buried his 21st of the season and more noteworthy, the 200th OHL point of his career. McShane - who potted his 200th point in November - was ecstatic to help his teammate join the 200 point club. The two embraced after the goal in what seemed to be a special moment.
67s Jack Beck tied the game with his first OHL goal. A rally cry of "Go Gens Go" began throughout the arena as the fans tried to send as much of their energy to their team as possible, but regulation ended undecided with a 4-4 score.
Overtime:
The Generals dominated puck possession but the 67s first shot which came with 15 seconds remaining in the overtime period. Jack Beck was at it again netting the second of his OHL career to seal the night for the 67s.
