Frederick Keys News Release
After having lost six consecutive games to the Kinston Indians, the Keys extracted a bit of revenge, battering Indians pitching for ten runs and 16 hits in a 10-5 win in front of 7,122 fans at Harry Grove Stadium Friday night.
The win secures a winning season for the Keys, its first since 2005.
In its home finale, the Keys got off to a great start getting consecutive two-out RBI-singles from 2B LJ Hoes and 1B Tyler Townsend giving the Keys a 2-0 lead. It would be a sign of things to come as the Keys plated runs in five of its eight trips to the plate.
Frederick was opportunistic in its most important rally of the night. Tied at 2-apiece in the fourth inning, Indians starter TJ House fell apart. He hit C Luis Bernardo with an 0-2 pitch to lead off the inning. DH Jonathan Schoop walked and CF Kyle Hudson put down a bunt that was misplayed to load the bases. Next up was LF Bobby Stevens who was hit by a pitch and the Keys had a run without a hit or an out in the inning. 3B Billy Rowell and Hoes would single to score two more runs in the frame and Frederick was atop 5-2.
The Keys got another solid start from RHP Oliver Drake. Drake (6-6) went six innings allowing two two-run home runs to earn his fourth win in his last six starts. He will make his next start in Game One of the Northern Division Championship Series.
Frederick got huge nights from Rowell who went 3-for-4 with three RBI's pushing him to 59 on the year (a career high) and 1B Tyler Townsend who finished a home run shy of the cycle. Townsend was 3-for-5 with an RBI in the game. Hoes had two hits and two RBI's and Schoop had his first Carolina league hit, an RBI-single to right field in the fifth inning.
Even with the loss Kinston wrapped up a playoff berth with Salem's 5-0 home loss to Potomac. The Nationals need just one more win or Wilmington loss to wrap up a bid in the North.
The Keys now hit the road to Wilmington, DE for its final series of the regular season. It begins Saturday, September 4th at 6:05 p.m. with RHP Ryan O'Shea getting the nod for Frederick. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. on The Keys Baseball Network.
Frederick returns home for Game One of the Northern Division Championship Series Wednesday, September 8th at 7:00 p.m. For tickets contact the Keys Box Offices at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
