K-Tribe Clinches Playoff Berth; Falls 10-5 to Keys

Kinston fell 10-5 to Frederick on Friday night, but Salem's loss to Potomac clinched the K-Tribe a spot in the Carolina League playoffs for the first time since 2007. The Southern Division series will start next Wednesday at 7 pm in Winston-Salem against the first half champion Dash.
The Keys got on the board in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles by L.J. Hoes and Tyler Townsend to take a 2-0 lead.
Kinston tied the game in the top of the fourth on a two-run homer to center by Abner Abreu. It was Abreu's fourth homer of the season and first since June 28.
Frederick rallied to regain the lead in the bottom of the inning. Luis Bernardo was hit by a pitch, Jonathan Schoop walked and Kyle Hudson reached on an error on House to load the bases. Bobby Stevens was hit by a pitch to bring a run home. Billy Rowell had an RBI single but Kyle Hudson was thrown out trying to score for the second out. David Roberts came on to relieve House and surrendered an RBI single to Hoes to make it 5-2.
House (6-10) gave up five runs, three earned on six hits in 3 2/3 innings for the loss. He walked four and struck out three.
The Keys added a run in the fifth on Jonathan Schoop's RBI single to make it 6-2. The K-Tribe answered in the sixth on Donnie Webb's two-run homer to cut the lead to 6-4. However, Frederick came back in the bottom of the inning with RBI doubles by Billy Rowell and Tyler Townsend to make it 8-4.
Kinston scored on Chun Chen's RBI groundout in the seventh to cut the lead to 8-5. Frederick added two more in the seventh on Welty's RBI single and Rowell's sac fly to make it 10-5.
Frederick starter Oliver Drake (6-6) went six innings for the win, giving up four runs on eight hits. He walked two and struck out six.
Kinston will finish the regular season with four games in three days at Potomac, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday. Joe Gardner will start game one and Austin Adams will throw game two, with the twin bill starting at 5:03 pm.
