Frederick Keys News Release

The Frederick Keys equaled a season high with 15 runs and set a season high with 22 hits as they put together four consecutive big innings to overwhelm Winston-Salem 15-3 in the series opener.

It all started in the third inning with back-to-back two-out RBI singles from 3B Brandon Waring and C Caleb Joseph putting Frederick up 2-1.

The Keys onslaught had just begun though as Frederick opened it up with a four-run fourth inning followed by six runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Frederick had a run of four straight innings with at least seven men to bat.

Four players had at least three hits with LF Tyler Henson leading the way going 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Eight Keys had multi-hit games. 1B Robbie Widlansky had his fourth consecutive three-hit game going 3-for-3 with three walks. RF Billy Rowell had his third consecutive multi-hit game.

Amazingly, the Keys hit just one home run, as Waring's three-run fifth inning home run made it a 12-2 score at the time. It was Waring's 19th of the year and pushed his RBI-total to 71, equaling his career high from 2008 in Dayton.

The most unusual happening of the night came in the 7th inning with the Dash batting, the bases loaded and nobody out.

Dash 3B Brent Morel hit a pop-up in foul territory down the right-field line that was caught by Widlansky. Faking a tag was the runner at third base Tyler Kuhn, but the runner at second Justin Greene ran halfway to third. With Greene held-up, Kuhn took off to the plate and the Keys tagged him out.

But Greene had run back to second where the runner at first, Dale Mollenhauer had advanced to. With two runners at second base, Greene took off for third and was tagged out.

A 3-6-2-5-6-5 triple play for those scoring at home.

Frederick starter Zach Britton picked up his team-high eighth win of the year.

The Keys face Winston-Salem again Friday, August 7th with Rick Zagone on the hill. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:40 p.m. with The UPS Store Pre-Game Show on The Keys Baseball Network.

Frederick returns home for NFL Night with Fireworks to follow against Winston-Salem Friday, August 14th at 7:00 p.m. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
