Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, Md. - Myrtle Beach's Drew Robinson hit a two-out, two-run, bases-loaded single in the top of the 10th, sending the Frederick Keys to a gut-wrenching 10-8 loss Tuesday night at Harry Grove Stadium.

Frederick (20-29, 54-64) led 8-3 entering the top of the ninth, but Trever Adams slugged a game-tying grand slam, his second homer of the game, and Myrtle Beach (30-20, 70-49) rallied for five runs to tie the game at 8-8. Jesse Beal allowed a single, a walk and hit a batter to load the bases in the tenth and was relieved by Zach Fowler, who got Chris Grayson to ground into a force out at home but then allowed Robinson's single. Beal (2-1) was charged with both runs and took the loss.

Will Lamb (4-0) earned the win for Myrtle Beach, throwing three scoreless innings and fanning five Keys, and Ryan Harvey earned his sixth save of the season, working around a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 10th.

In his second rehab start with Frederick, Wilson Betemit, batting second and serving as the designated hitter, went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Keys starter Tim Berry tossed seven innings and allowed three runs and a walk while striking out three batters and receiving a no-decision.

The Keys end their season series with Myrtle Beach having lost six of 14 games against the Pelicans, who swept Frederick in this three-game set. It was the Keys' fourth time being swept this season and third time at home.

The Keys plated four runs in the bottom of the second Tuesday, Betemit's one-out, bases loaded single through the right side putting Frederick ahead 4-0. The Keys loaded the bases with back-to-back singles and a fielding error on third baseman Drew Robinson that allowed Jason Esposito to reach. Michael Mosby then drove in the first run of the game on a sharp single back up the middle and Tucker Nathans drew a walk, plating the second. Betemit then knocked home two runs.

In the third, Travis Adair doubled to left-center, providing Frederick's first extra-base hit in 20 innings, and he scored on Johnny Ruettiger's RBI single, extending the Keys' lead to 5-0.

Pelicans starter Alex "Chi Chi" Gonzalez, Texas' first round pick in June, was pulled after the third, having thrown 60 pitches. Gonzalez, whose fastball registered in the mid-90s, allowed seven hits, five runs, three earned and walked one with no strikeouts.

Myrtle Beach rallied for a pair of runs off Berry in the fourth, Adams blasting a solo homer on the first pitch of the inning, and Hanser Alberto sending an RBI single into center, scoring Royce Bolinger, who was hit in the foot by an 0-2 pitch.

The Pelicans cut their deficit to 5-3 in the top of the sixth, when Bolinger tripled and scored on Patrick Cantwell's sacrifice fly.

Frederick, however, scored three more runs in the eighth, Betemit driving home his third run of the game on a sharp single to right and Glynn Davis hitting a two-out, two-run bases-loaded ground-rule double.

After Matt Price pitched a scoreless eighth inning, then came the Pelicans' rally.

Five Keys registered two hits Tuesday, including Davis, who drove in two runs and also walked once. Adams went 2-for-5 with his ninth and 10th homers of the season and drove in five runs for Myrtle Beach.

The Keys travel to Potomac tomorrow to being a three-game series with the P-Nats. Brady Wager (3-6, 4.64) starts for the Keys and lefty Matt Purke (2-3, 5.77) starts for the P-Nats. The Keys return home Saturday at 6 p.m. against the Winston-Salem Dash, a game that will also feature the return of The Cowboy Monkey Rodeo to Harry Grove Stadium.
