Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (70-49, 30-20), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, erased a five-run ninth-inning deficit and stunned the Frederick Keys 10-8 in 10 innings Tuesday at Harry Grove Stadium. In the last six days, the Pelicans have mounted ninth inning comebacks of five and six runs. With the win, the Pelicans have won six in a row and earn a sweep of the three-game series against the Keys.
The Pelicans trailed 8-3 entering the ninth inning and sent eight men to the plate in a game-tying rally. Chris Grayson pulled the Pelicans to within four with an RBI single. With the bases loaded, and the Pelicans down to their final strike, Trever Adams launched a game-tying grand slam to left field, tying the game 8-8. With the game still tied in the ninth inning, Drew Robinson drilled a two-out, two-run single to right field to give the Birds a 10-8 lead they would not relinquish.
Adams finished 2-for-5 with two home runs and five knocked in, bringing his season total to 10 home runs and 71 knocked in. Royce Bolinger went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Patrick Cantwell and Grayson each registered two hits.
Will Lamb (4-0) took the win out of the bullpen, firing three scoreless innings. Ryan Harvey got the final three outs and notched his sixth save of the season. Jesse Beal (2-1) was hit with the loss, allowing two earned runs over 0.2 innings.
Right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez started for the Pelicans and allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits over three innings.
Trailing 5-0, Adams put the Pelicans on the board with his ninth home run of the season, a solo home run in the fourth inning. Hanser Alberto added an RBI single later in the frame to make it 5-2.
The Pelicans begin a three-game series Wednesday with the Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium. Left-hander Luis Parra (0-0, 3.00) will start for the Pelicans. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. EST with pregame coverage beginning at 7 p.m.
The Pelicans return home Saturday to take on the Lynchburg Hillcats. The two teams will continue a game that was suspended back on June 29 at TicketReturn.com Field. The continuation game will start at 6:05 p.m. and the regularly scheduled game will be a seven inning contest beginning roughly 30 minutes after the opening tilt concludes. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.myrtlebeachpelicans.com or by calling 918-6000.
