Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys offense came to life, posting back-to-back big innings en route to an 11-2 win evening the series against Winston-Salem in front of a big crowd of 5,604 fans at Harry Grove Stadium.
Frederick trailed 2-0 after Dash 3B Jon Gilmore belted his fourth home run of the year, giving Winston-Salem a 2-0 lead. It would be all that Keys starter Rick Zagone allowed in 6 and 1/3rd innings of work.
Keys 1B Joe Mahoney homered in the fourth inning and the Keys bats came to life for good an inning later. 3B Billy Rowell led off the inning with a double beginning the rally as the first five Keys to bat reached base. With three runs home and Dash starter Charlie Leesman out of the game, 2B Miguel Abreu doubled to right-center field plating two more runs and Frederick was atop 6-2.
An inning later the Keys would send nine more batters to the plate. This time the big hit came off of the bat of RF Ronnie Welty who singled home two. The four run frame blew the game wide open at 10-2. Welty and Abreu each drove home three runs on the night, all taking place in the two inning onslaught.
Orioles rehabbing outfielder Felix Pie was the designated hitter once again batting 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in the win. Mahoney's home run was his eighth of the year tying his season total from 2009.
Frederick closes its series with the rubber match of its three-game series with Winston-Salem on Saturday, June 26th as it is Scout Night presented by WOW Café and Wingery at Harry Grove Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. and tickets are going fast.
