Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Lynchburg smacked 16 hits and matched their season-high with nine runs in a 9-1 win at Kinston on Friday night. The win evened the series at a game a piece and set-up the rubber match on Saturday night.
The Indians struck first for the second straight night with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Ronald Rivas slapped a single up the middle to plate the first run of the game. The Hillcats answered quickly though with a run in the top of the third inning. Kevin Coddington drove-in Cody Puckett with a ground out to tie the game at one.
In the third the Hillcats would take their first lead of the series with a three-run frame. Efrain Contreras brought in the first two runs with a base hit and Brodie Greene drove in his first run as a professional with a two-out single to make it 4-1. Greene went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI, a run and a walk in just his fourth game as a pro. It was just the third four-hit game of the season for the Cats.
The Cats opened things up in the eighth inning with four more runs to up their advantage to seven at 8-1. Coddington, Neftali Soto and Josh Fellhauer had three straight RBI base knocks in the frame and another run scored on an error. Lynchburg plated one more run in the ninth inning on an RBI sacrifice fly by Soto. The nine runs scored matches the most runs scored by the Hillcats this season and their 16 hits was just one shy of their season-best.
