Frederick Keys News Release
Zebulon, NC - The Keys scored four times in the fifth inning to break a tie and never looked back in taking the series lead against Carolina with a 10-3 win on Monday night at Five County Stadium. Erick Salcedo collected a season-high four hits, Aderlin Rodriguez and Cam Kneeland gathered multi-hit games, and Lucas Long pitched to his fifth win of the year.
In the fifth, the orange and black batted around against Caleb Beech and Michael O'Neal. Beech (2-3) hit Josh Hart with a pitch to kick things off. Salcedo singled and D.J. Stewart grounded out to score Hart for a 2-1 lead. Wynston Sawyer doubled home Salcedo, while Rodriguez followed with a base hit to put runners on the corners. Kneeland singled up the middle to plate Sawyer and knock Beech out of the game. O'Neal gave up a sacrifice fly to Jomar Reyes to cap the scoring and hand the Keys a 5-1 advantage. Beech lasted 4.1 innings and gave up five runs on nine hits.
The Keys scored in the third inning on the first RBI by Stewart. Hart, on base via a fielder's choice, got to second on a groundout by Salcedo. Stewart followed, as he recorded his second multi-RBI game in a Keys uniform.
Long faced seven batters in the home third, as back-to-back two-out doubles by Erison Mendez and Keith Curcio tied it at one. The Mudcats loaded the bases, but couldn't take the lead.
In the sixth, Rodriguez blasted a two-run double with two away to left-center field against O'Neal. It scored Salcedo and Sawyer, who had singled and walked. O'Neal pitched 1.2 innings and gave up two runs on three hits. Seven of the Keys 10 runs scored with two outs.
Isaias Tejeda launched a solo home run against Long in the sixth, who fell one out shy a quality start. He gave up a double to Luis Valenzeula and walked Tanner Murphy on four pitches to complete his outing. Jeff Beliveau stranded both on base for Long (5-5), who went 5.2 innings, gave up two runs on seven hits, walked two, and struck out four.
Beliveau had his 7.2 scoreless stretch snapped in the seventh on an RBI two-bagger by Braxton Davidson, but the lefty gave up just that run in 2.2 innings. The Keys added three in the ninth, two on a single by Salcedo, and another on a sac fly by Jonah Heim against Zack Bird. Tanner Chleborad pitched a clean ninth inning to end the game in 3 hours and 27 minutes.
The Keys and Mudcats wrap up the four-game series with day baseball on Tuesday. RHP David Richardson (3-2, 2.35) is on the mound for the Keys against Mudcats RHP Ryan Clark (1-10, 5.60). The broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com.
