Frederick Keys News Release

As Take Me Out to the Ballgame played in Salem the Keys led for a second straight night. Unfortunately for a second straight night the Keys saw the opposition rally, as this time it was Salem, plating four runs in the frame to upend the Keys in the series opener 5-2.

Salem DH Luis Exposito was outstanding doubling home the tying run in the fourth inning to knot the game, 1-1. In the seventh inning he would do one better.

Exposito's two-run home run was the highlight of Salem's four-run eighth inning that put the Red Sox atop, 5-2. Exposito went 4-for-4 on the night with 3 RBI's.

For a fourth straight night a Keys starter worked into the seventh inning. LHP Nate Nery (0-2) allowed an unearned run through six innings before the fateful seventh. The first three batters reached and Nery left the contest.

The Keys (23-25) now fall to 1-3 on its current six-game road trip. SS Pedro FLorimon saw his eight-game hitting streak end going 0-for-4. DH Robbie Widlansky was 2-for-4 with his first Carolina League RBI and extra base hit.

Former Keys catcher Matt Wieters became the fifth former Frederick Key to debut with the Baltimore Orioles tonight against Detroit. Wieters is the 101st Key to reach the big leagues joining former Keys Brian Robert (2000), Nick Markakis (2005), Jim Johnson (2005), Nolan Reimold (2005-06), Brad Bergesen (2007-08), Jason Berken (2007), David Hernandez (2007) and Gregg Zaun (1992) with the parent club.

The series continues Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. with Tim Bascom (3-4, 3.24) on the hill. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with The UPS Store Pre-Game Show from Salem, VA.
