August 27, 2003 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

The Frederick Keys (31-34, 57-74) were unable to sweep the Lynchburg Hillcats (38-28, 76-56) at Lynchburg City Stadium, losing, 5-3, on Wednesday, August 27. The game was called after seven innings due to inclement weather.

The Hillcats got started early with two runs in the first inning, both coming off Walter Young's 20th home run to deep centerfield.

The Keys answered back with single runs in the 3rd, 4th and 5th inning to take a brief lead. Lynchburg, however, regained the lead for good, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the 5th inning.

Bryan Bullington (8-4) got the victory for Lynchburg after pitching 6.0 innings and giving up just the three runs. Keys starter Kurt Birkins (7-11) took the loss for his team-leading 11th of the season. Hillcats converted outfielder Jeremy Harts picked up his first save of the season in the contest.

The Keys are off on Thursday, August 28 before beginning a four-game, season-ending series with the Winston-Salem Warthogs at Harry Grove Stadium. Keys RHP Nick McCurdy is expected to start the series-opening game on Friday, August 29. Game time for Friday's game is set for 7:05 p.m. Tickets for the four-game series with the Warthogs can be purchased by calling the Keys ticket office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or by visiting the Frederick Keys official website at www.frederickkeys.com.
