Frederick Keys News Release
SALEM, VA. - A change of scenery gave way to a victory as the Frederick Keys (2-6) held on to a 3-2 win over the Salem Red Sox (3-5) on Thursday night at Haley Toyota Field. Mason McCoy paced the offense with two doubles to set up the tying and winning run. Frederick's bullpen pitched four scoreless innings in relief without walking a batter.
Frederick struck first in the top half of the second inning after Zach Jarrett scored on a passed ball to make it 1-0. In the bottom half of the inning, Salem loaded the bases on a pair of hits and a walk when Nick Sciortino evened the score 1-1 on a sacrifice fly. The Red Sox took a 2-1 lead an inning later on a two-out double from Jagger Rusconi. In the fifth frame, Yeltsin Gudino capitalized on two errors to advance to second base, where McCoy drove him in to tie the game 2-2.
Keys starter Cameron Bishop pitched through adversity to limit damage, allowing six hits, three walks, and two earned runs while striking out four in five innings. Travis Seabrooke (1-0) worked out of a no-out, bases loaded situation in the sixth and stranded a runner in scoring position in the seventh to finished with two scoreless innings. Cameron Ming (S, 1) pitched the final two frames and left the tying run on second base in the ninth inning.
Salem starter Bryan Mata tied a career-high in strikeouts with eight over five and two-thirds innings. Jake Thompson (0-1) gave up just two hits over two and two-thirds innings. The Red Sox were 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
