Frederick Keys News Release
Winners of five-of-seven games in Winston-Salem this season the Keys had a good feeling heading into BB&T Ballpark on Friday night. The good vibes did not last. Winston-Salem jumped out early and never looked back as the Keys fell 10-0 in the series opener. It was just the third time the Keys had been shutout this season.
The game turned early as with the bases loaded and two down Dash 3B Juan Silverio registered Winston-Salem's first hit of the inning - a grand slam home run to left field. Keys starter Nathan Moreau had walked three and struck out two in a bizarre start to the bottom of the first.
The home run game Winston-Salem four runs with one hit. Their next was a home run as well as 1B Ian Gac hit his league leading 28th home run of the season -a solo shot to left field in the third inning.
The Keys were outhit just 7-5 in the contest but Frederick registered just one extra base hit and had just four at-bats with a runner in scoring position on the night.
Prior to the game Keys starter Bobby Bundy was sent to Double-A Bowie with the Keys receiving back LHP Rick Zagone. Zagone has been a part of the Keys rotation in parts of the last two seasons.
The series continues with RHP Scott Copeland due to make his Carolina League debut. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. with coverage beginning 20-minutes prior on 1450-AM The Source.
Frederick returns home to face Winston-Salem for a weekend four-game series beginning Thursday, August 11th. Friday, the 12th will be Fritos Family Friday with Wrestling Great Jerry "The King" Lawler in attendance signing autographs throughout the game for free.
