Frederick Keys News Release

Zebulon, NC - For the second straight game, the Keys nemesis was the eighth inning in a 6-5 defeat to Carolina at Five County Stadium on Monday night. One game after the Mudcats scored seven runs in the eighth on Sunday, they plated four on Monday en route to a four-game sweep over the Keys. It is the first time since 2008 Frederick has been swept in a four-game road trip.

Trailing 6-2 entering the ninth, Frederick nearly came back with a trio of runs. After Carolina reliever Dave Peterson struck out Trey Mancini to begin the frame, the next five Keys batters reached against him to trim it to a one-run deficit. Brenden Webb doubled, Adrian Marin singled and Austin Wynns brought Webb home to make it 6-3. Anthony Caronia reached on an error that scored Marin, and Wynns was brought home by pinch-hitter Tucker Nathans' RBI single. Tyler Jones came in to relief Peterson and got a Johnny Ruettiger lineout and strikeout of Jeff Kemp to earn his fifth save.

One night after scoring 11 unanswered runs, Carolina scored six unanswered to take a 6-2 lead. In the eighth, Keys reliever Dennis Torres gave up four runs, two earned, to take the loss. Sending nine men to the box, Joey Meneses scored on a Levi Hyams RBI base hit, and error on Torres added another run. A two-run single by Sean Godfrey proved to be the game-winning hit.

The Keys scored the first pair of runs against Mudcats starter Lucas Sims, who went six innings, allowed five hits and two runs. In the third, Drew Dosch knocked in his league-leading 19th RBI of the year, and Wynns lifted a sac fly in the fourth to bring home Webb.

Keys starter Jarett Miller allowed one run through five innings of work, as he gave up an RBI single to Meneses in the fourth. Miller stranded two runners on base in the fourth and fifth innings and was left with a no-decision. Austin Urban struck out the side in the sixth and seventh frames, however he allowed a game-tying two-out double to Joe Odom in the sixth that tied the game up at 2-2.

The Keys return home to Nymeo Field for a three-game against Winston-Salem on Tuesday. The Keys starter is TBA, while RHP Robinson Leyer (0-3, 3.60) throws for the Dash. The broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com. For tickets, fans can call 301-815- 9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
