Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys could not complete a four-game sweep of the Winston-Salem Dash on Sunday afternoon as Frederick fell 5-2. Dash RF Nick Ciolli hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth that put the game out of reach. LHP Nick Haughian picked up the loss on the afternoon despite allowing just one earned run over six innings of work.

For the fourth consecutive game, Frederick was the first to strike. LF Kipp Schutz led off the bottom of the second with double to right field. Two batters later, 1B Michael Flacco chopped a ball over the head of the Juan Silverio at third base. Schutz easily scored on the play and with the infield drawn in, Flacco was able to leg out a double.

Winston-Salem took their first lead in the series in the fourth inning. The Dash plated two runs, one earned, in the inning to go in front by a run.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Keys looked to tie the game on a solo home run by 2B Jonathan Schoop. Schoop's line drive to the left field cleared the first row of fencing and bounced off a support beam back into the field of play. The home plate umpire ruled it was not a home run and Schoop was instead left with a double. Frederick failed to score in the inning.

RF Nick Ciolli hit a three-run homer in the top of the eighth to help secure the victory for Winston-Salem.

LHP Jake Petricka pitched well on the afternoon as he allowed one run on five hits over seven innings. Petricka picked up the victory and improved to 3-6 on the year.

Frederick will welcome the Wilmington Blue Rocks to town on Monday evening for the start of three-game series. LHP Nathan Moreau (10-9, 4.37) will start for the Keys while the Rocks will turn to RHP Tim Melville (8-8, 4.56). First pitch from Harry Grove Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
