Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. â - RedHawks pitcher Sebastian Kessay kept cool on the mound as the RedHawks offense was hot again in a 6-2 victory over the Lake Country DockHounds (12-16) in front of a crowd of 2,157 at Newman Outdoor Field on Sunday. Kessay (4-0, 3.19 ERA) allowed only one run on six hits and two walks while striking out seven batters in seven innings pitched.
But it was Lake Country who opened the scoring first as designated hitter Aaron Takacs hit a RBI single that scored Gabriel Noriega in the top of the first inning. DockHounds' starter Alex McRae pitched the first five innings for Lake Country and allowed one run on four hits while striking out four RedHawks' batters. McRae was relieved by LHP Matt Valin (0-1) in the sixth inning as Valin picked up his first loss after allowing two runs on three hits in one inning pitched.
First baseman Drew Ward (1-for-2, two HBP) hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the RedHawks a 2-1 lead. Ward has now hit a homerun in four of his last five games and is currently in second place in the league with 11 homeruns on the year. Catcher Manuel Boscan led the RedHawks with three hits and also scored a run. The ever-versatile Nick Novak had an all-around great day filling in for regular third baseman Leo Pina as Novak picked off two line drives and went 1-for-4 with a run and a RBI as he and shortstop Sam Dexter had the only other RBIs for the RedHawks.
Former RedHawks manager and current Lake Country skipper Jim Bennett brought in right handed pitcher Mei Mei for the seventh inning, as he allowed one run on a hit and two walks without recording an out. LHP Kyle Huckaby relieved Mei and held off the RedHawks as he retired the inning. Another former RedHawks player, Taylor Bloye, came in and pitched in the eighth inning and allowed two runs on a hit and a walk in his return to Fargo since he last played here in 2019. DockHounds second baseman Manuel Blanco had the only extra-base hit with a double in the top of the seventh inning.
Fargo-Moorhead's RHP Joe Jones came in the eighth inning and struck out one while keeping the DockHounds off the bases. But after retiring the side, a heated argument began with home plate umpire Shawn McKenna and Jones was ejected from the game. RHP Alex DuBord came in and pitched in the ninth, as he struck out one and allowed one run on two hits and two walks as Lake Country scored a run in the top of the ninth inning, but left the bases loaded to end the game. The RedHawks won the first-ever series against the newest member of the league and will face the DockHounds again in a week for a four-game series at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park in Oconomowoc, Wisc., beginning on June 20.
The RedHawks improve to 18-9 on the year and have tomorrow off before starting a three-game series against the Cleburne Railroaders on Tuesday, June 14 at Newman Outdoor Field. RHP Ryan Flores (2-0, 4.72 ERA) will take the mound for the 'Hawks.
