Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - Winnipeg Goldeyes' starter Luis Ramirez allowed just one earned run in eight plus innings of work as the Goldeyes clinched a sweep with a 3-1 victory over the Kane County Cougars on Sunday afternoon at Northwestern Medicine Field.

Ramirez (3-1) worked through eight innings scoreless and struck out nine hitters against just one walk. The former Kane County Cougar allowed just three hits.

The Goldeyes (14-13) jumped out to a lead for a third straight game against Cougars' (13-14) starter Jose Fuentes (1-1). In the top of the first, Raul Navarro led off the ballgame with a single before stealing second and moving to third on a single by Eric Rivera. Navarro then came in to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ian Sagdal.

Winnipeg added two more in the top of the fourth. With one out, David Washington doubled before Reggie Pruit Jr. smacked a two-run homer over the left field wall to make it 3-0.

Kane County finally got on the board in the bottom of the ninth. Galli Cribbs Jr. led off the frame with a double against Ramirez before Winnipeg inserted closer Tasker Strobel. Following a fly out by Ernie De La Trinidad, Steve Lombardozzi roped an RBI single down the left-field line to make it 3-1. However, Strobel retired the last two hitters of the ballgame to earn the save.

In a losing effort, the Cougars received multiple quality pitching performances. Fuentes earned a quality start by allowing just three runs over six innings. Jack Anderson tossed two scoreless frames with four strikeouts and Logan Nissen pitched a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.

The Cougars will hit the road tomorrow for three more games against Goldeyes in Winnipeg. Kane County returns home for three games against the Sioux Falls Canaries on June 17th. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com/tickets.
