Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
DAVENPORT, IOWA - The Kernels won 1-0 in 11 innings on Tuesday at Quad Cities. T.J. White's sacrifice fly in the 11th inning scored Zack Larson for the game's only run, giving the Kernels the victory in the series opener. The win snapped a three-game losing streak.
Larson led off the 11th inning with a single to left-center, his second hit of the day. After two errors by pitcher Joe Musgrove the Kernels had three runners on base. Trey Vavra put down a bunt that was mishandled by Musgrove, putting runners on first and second. Max Murphy then bunted back to the mound, and Musgrove's throw to third was off target to put three on base. White then lifted the sacrifice fly to right, scoring Larson from third base.
Southpaw Cam Booser (1-0) earned the win for the Kernels. The southpaw yielded two hits and two walks in two scoreless innings while striking out three. Trevor Hildenberger recorded his second save of the season with a scoreless 11th inning, striking out one and allowing one hit.
Musgrove (3-1) suffered the loss for the River Bandits. The right-hander allowed an unearned run on four hits in six innings of relief. He struck out one and walked none.
Both starting pitchers recorded no-decisions in the series opener. Bryan Radziewski tossed five shutout innings in the start for Quad Cities, allowing just two hits while striking out four. Jared Wilson went five innings for Cedar Rapids, allowing no runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two.
Randy LeBlanc threw three scoreless innings of relief for Cedar Rapids. The right-hander allowed two hits and struck out three.
Zack Granite and Nick Gordon each extended their hitting streaks. Granite now has a team-best eight game hitting streak while Gordon has a personal-best seven game hit streak.
The series at Quad Cities continues on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. LHP Mat Batts (2-0, 1.47) starts for the Kernels while RHP Daniel Mengden (1-1, 2.84) takes the hill for the River Bandits.
