September 3, 2009 - Gabe Jacobo went 3-5 with a HR and 3 RBI as the Cedar Rapids Kernels won their second game in a row, 4-2, against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, WI. The Kernels pounded out 11 hits as Beau Brooks and Roberto Lopez both had two hits and Darwin Perez went 1-3 with an RBI. Rolando Gomez was 1-3 with an RBI in his Kernels debut.
Kernels starter Tyler Chatwood (8-7) allowed a run on five hits, walked five and struck out four over five innings for the win.. Chris Armstrong struck out three over two innings of relief and Johnny Hellweg struck out two over two innings for his second save. Wisconsin starter Wily Peralta (4-4) allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and struck out five over five innings in taking the loss. Brock Kjeldgaard was 3-3 with two doubles and an RBI and Erik Miller was 1-3 with an RBI.
With the win, the Kernels improve to 35-29 in the MWL second half and 75-59 overall. Wisconsin falls to 24-41 and 58-77 overall. The playoff-bound Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 5th for the final home stand of the season against the Burlington Bees. Gates open at 5:30 pm and first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm with a spectacular FIREWORKS show to follow the game.
