The playoff-bound Cedar Rapids Kernels wrap up the 2009 MWL regular season with a three game series against the Burlington Bees. The Fun's Right Here with a rundown of what you can expect each day:
September 5-7 vs. Burlington Bees
The Kernels wrap up the 2009 regular season and get ready for the playoffs with a three game series against the Burlington Bees, the Midwest League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
The home stand starts on Saturday, September 5th as the first 500 fans through the gates when they open at 5:30 pm receive a free Kernels visor courtesy the Best Western Longbranch. The Kernels welcome special guests from St. Joseph's School to the game and following the game, enjoy a spectacular FIREWORKS show. The Kernels and Bees are scheduled for a 6:35 pm first pitch.
Take note of the special start time on Sunday, September 6th as first pitch between the Kernels and Burlington is scheduled for 5:05 pm with the gates opening at 4:00 pm. The first 2,000 fans through the gates receive a free 2009 Kernels Team Photo, courtesy of Copyworks. It's also a 104.5 KDAT Sunday Family Day - fans can have the Kernels autograph their team photos from 4:20 to 4:40 pm on the concourse before the game, and enjoy the balloon artistry of Papa Balloon on the main concourse during the game. After the game, there will be a live auction of the following items: a Nate Kaeding autographed football, a Tony Dungy autographed football, a Ryne Sandberg autographed bat, a Kernels team autographed Hawaiian jersey from Jimmy Buffett Night, and two baseballs autographed by and of the LA Angels. And if that wasn't enough, we wrap up the night with post-game FIREWORKS. Remember - 5:05 first pitch with the gate opening at 4:00 pm on Sunday!
The 2009 regular season comes to an end on Labor Day, Monday, September 7th when the Kernels take on Burlington at 2:05 pm. It's Fan Appreciation Day filled with concession and souvenir discounts throughout the game. The Miller Mezzanine and Randy Kuehl Honfidence Pavilion will be open to the public. These areas are usually reserved for groups, so take advantage to watch the game from some of the best views in the stadium. Tickets for the Mezzanine are $11 and $9 for the Pavilion. We'll be drawing for the season-long âFunds Right Here' $10,000 raffle after the game. Raffle tickets are on sale all weekend for $5 each or five tickets for $20 and the winner of last year's Harley Davidson motorcycle bought the winning ticket on Fan Appreciation Day. Get here when the gates open at 1:00 pm.
MWL Playoffs - Thursday, September 10 vs. Peoria
The Kernels first home playoff game is set for Thursday, September 10th at 6:35 pm as the Kernels host the Peoria Chiefs, the Midwest League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs in game two of a best of three series. It's a 100.7 The Fox Thirsty Thursday where 12 oz. draft beer is just a buck fifty all game. And following the game, celebrate with a spectacular FIREWORKS show. The Kernels and Chiefs in the playoffs with Thirsty Thursday and fireworks too! Gates open at 5:30 pm.
