Great Lakes Loons News Release

FORT WAYNE, IN - JonMichael Redding racked up his league-leading 16th win Thursday night and the Great Lakes Loons won for the first time in six games at new Parkview Field with an 8-4 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

The Loons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second on a three-run home run over the wall in left by Joe Becker. The blast was Becker's first home run in over two years. He last homered on July 18, 2007 with the Gulf Coast League Dodgers against the GCL Cardinals.

The Loons never trailed in the game, although Fort Wayne did pull to within one. Great Lakes extended its lead to four with a fifth-inning single by Anthony Hatch, which scored Dee Gordon and extended Hatch's hitting streak to 10 games. The TinCaps matched the Loons' fifth-inning run with an RBI single by their No. 3 hitter Jaff Decker.

Fort Wayne then pulled to within one with a two-run sixth inning. With two outs, the 'Caps recorded consecutive doubles by Adam Zornes and Daniel Robertson to bring in a run and force Redding out of the game. Reliever Roberto Feliciano surrendered an RBI single to Blake Tekotte to pull the TinCaps to within one.

But the Loons responded with a four-run seventh inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Kyle Russell lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Nick Buss. Hatch tagged from first and advanced to second on a close play that was disputed by Fort Wayne manager Doug Dascenzo that prompted his ejection by base umpire Chris Nguyen. The Loons followed that close play with a two-run double by Alfredo Silverio, who then scored on a double by Jerry Sands.

In the ninth, the TinCaps loaded the bases on back to back walks by Jordan Pratt and a single by Cole Figueroa off Cole St. Clair. Yefri Carvajal drove in one with the bases loaded on a bloop single. Then with two outs, Robertson followed with a double-digit pitch at bat, resulting eventually in a fly out to center.

Robertson also made two stellar defensive plays in right field robbing Russell and Hatch of potential extra base hits.

Redding (16-3) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs in his final start before the Midwest League playoffs. Hatch, Silverio and Sands recorded multi-hit games to pace the Loons.

Mike Watt (7-4), a former Dodgers farmhand, took the loss for Fort Wayne, who stranded 14 base runners in the loss.

The Loons (79-57, 39-27) and TinCaps (90-46, 45-21) meet for the final time in the regular season Friday night at Parkview Field. Game time is 7:05pm. The game will be carried in Mid-Michigan on ESPN 100.9-FM and online at Loons.com. Right-hander Josh Walter (10-4, 3.46 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Loons against righty Simon Castro (10-6, 3.48).

Tickets remain on sale for Loons' September 9 playoff game against West Michigan, also a 7:05pm game at Dow Diamond, the first playoff game in team history. All Loons home playoff games will feature the Chemical Bank Dollar Family Feast Night promotion.

The Great Lakes Loons are the third-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
