
Bees Lose Final Home Game of Regular Season

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees played their final home game in the regular season losing to Clinton 5-4 Friday night at Community Field. The playoff-bound Bees still took two out of three from the LumberKings as they prepare for the final regular season series at Cedar Rapids, which begins Saturday.
The Bees scored first run of the ballgame in the first inning. Adrian Ortiz led the inning off with a single and moved to second on an error. After one out was recorded, Jason Taylor singled to score Ortiz, which gave the Bees a 1-0 lead. The lead lasted until the third inning when Clinton scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Bees then answered with one run in the third. Fernando Garcia led the inning off with a single and then stole second. With two outs, Taylor singled again to score Garcia to get the Bees back within one run.
Clinton added to their lead with two runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Bees got within one run scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Hilton Richardson reached on an error and then scored all the way from first on a Taylor double. With two outs, Jason Morales doubled to score Taylor to get the Bees back within one run. The Bees could not get any more runs on the board after that.
Mike Lehmann got the start for the Bees and pitched 4.1 innings allowing five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and four walks. He took the loss to move to 5-7 this season. Riquy Pena pitched 2.2 no-hit innings with three strikeouts. Justin Garcia pitched two innings allowing two hits with one strikeout and no walks.
The Bees were outhit 9-8. Taylor led the way for the Bees going 3-4 with a run and three RBI. He was the only Bee with more than one hit.
The Bees open the final series in the regular season on Saturday at Cedar Rapids. Tim Melville is the scheduled starter with first pitch scheduled for 6:35. The Bees will play three games against the Kernels and then will open the post-season on Wednesday at Community Field against Kane County.
