Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Geneva, IL - A ninth inning Kernels rally fell two runs short, as the Kane County Cougars took the second game of a three game series with Cedar Rapids, 5-3, on Sunday afternoon in Geneva, IL. Mike Trout went 2-4 with a triple to extend his hitting streak to eight games and Eric Oliver was 2-3 with a double and RBI.
Walks hurt the Kernels pitching staff this afternoon, as they issued eight free passes to Kane County batters. Kernels starter Garrett Richards allowed a run on just three hits, walked five and struck out eight over 5.1 innings in a no-decision effort. C.J. Bressoud (0-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) over 1.1 innings.
Reliever Connor Hoehn (2-0) picked up the win for Kane County as Max Stassi and Mike Gilmartin each had 2 RBI. Cougar starter Ian Krol allowed a run on three hits and struck out four over four innings, but didn't figure in the final decision.
