South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
Dayton, OH - The Dayton Dragons scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 11th inning to walk off winners over the South Bend Silver Hawks on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Field.
Bradin Hagens (LP, 0-1) allowed a one out single to DiDi Gregorius to start the game winning rally. However, Henry Rodriguez hit a comebacker that could have been an inning-ending double play. Hagens spun to throw to second, but the ball sailed into center field for a two base error, putting runners at the corners. Andrew Means followed with a base hit to right, lifting the Dragons to a walk off win.
The Silver Hawks took an early lead in the top of the third against Dayton starter Josh Ravin (ND). Errol Hollinger extended his hitting streak to three with a one out single to left and then scored from first on Keon Broxton's triple to left for the 1-0 lead. It was Broxton's second triple of the season and his team-high tying fourth RBI.
Dayton tied the game with an unearned run against Mike Belfiore (ND) in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Kevyn Feiner reached on an error and Alex Oliveras followed with a single to right to put runners on the corners. The Dragons attempted a double steal, but the Silver Hawks appeared to have it blocked with Feiner stuck between third and home. However, Matt Davidson's throw to the plate hit Feiner in the back, allowing the run to score to tie the game.
The two teams exchanged runs in the sixth inning to keep the game tied at 2-2. David Nick had a RBI single off of Ravin in the top half of the inning, with Shane Carlson picking up a RBI single off of Diogenes Rosario (ND) in the bottom of the frame.
Both bullpens put up zeroes until the 11th. Brian Budrow (ND) and Keny Sosa (ND) each threw two scoreless innings for South Bend, with Sosa getting out of a bases loaded jam in the 10th inning. Doug Salinas (ND) ate up 4.2 scoreless innings for the Dayton bullpen, with Donnie Joseph (WP, 2-0) getting the final out in the top of the 11th to earn his second victory.
Dayton improves to 3-1 in extra inning contests with South Bend dropping their first bonus baseball decision of the season.
The Silver Hawks and Dragons wrap up the three game series on Monday evening at Fifth Third Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM Eastern Time with RHP Charles Brewer (0-2, 3.60 ERA) going against Dayton RHP Pedro Villarreal (0-0, 3.27 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com.
