Kernels pound out 15 hits in 14-2 romp over Snappers

Beloit, WI - The Cedar Rapids Kernels pounded out 15 hits in a 14-2 romp over the Beloit Snappers on Sunday afternoon in Beloit. Jean Segura, Jose Jimenez and Luis Jimenez all hit home runs and every Kernels starter had at least one hit.

The win improves the Kernels first half record to 26-17 and increases their lead to 1.5 games over second place Beloit and Peoria. The Kernels start a three game series with Peoria on Tuesday.

Kernels starter Patrick Corbin won his eight game of the year, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and striking out six over six innings. Buddy Boshers struck out two over two scoreless innings of relief and Jon Bachanov worked a scoreless ninth. Beloit starter Miguel Munoz (1-3) allowed four runs on six hits over four innings in taking the loss.

Jean Segura finished the game 3-4 with a HR, triple and 4 RBI and Luis Jimenez went 3-4 with a HR, two doubles and 2 RBI. Jose Jimenez was 2-3 with a HR, 3 RBI and three runs scored and Jon Karcich went 2-4 with a double and two runs scored. Mike Trout went 1-4 with a triple, 3 RBI and a stolen base to raise his total to a MWL best 23.
