Great Lakes Loons News Release

LANSING, MI - The Lansing Lugnuts rallied from down 4-0 through five and a half innings to score five unanswered runs and defeat the Great Lakes Loons 5-4 Sunday afternoon in 10 innings.

Down one with two outs in the ninth inning, Mark Sobolewski homered to left-center off Loons reliever Steve Smith to tie the game at four. The shot would have been a game-winner had pinch runner Oliver Dominguez not been caught stealing earlier in the inning on a pitchout by J.T. Wise.

So the game lasted one extra inning. In the 10th, Luis Vasquez (1-1) surrendered a one-out double off the top of the right field wall to Balbino Fuenmayor. Eric Eiland followed with a line drive into the left-center field gap for the game-winning single scoring pinch runner Chris Hopkins.

Rafael Ynoa drove in two of the Loons runs. Brian Cavazos-Galvez, Angelo Songco and J.T. Wise recorded two hits each for the Loons.

Josh Wall started and threw five scoreless innings before surrendering a solo home run to Brad McElroy leading off the sixth. Dave Sever threw five innings in his start for the Lugnuts, surrendering a run and six singles. Dustin Antolin (2-2) was credited with the win following a perfect top of the 10th.

The Loons remain in second place in the Midwest League, training Lake County by 2 ½ games and leading Lansing by just ½ game. Consequently, second place is on the line Monday night in the state capital in the final game of a four-game series between the two in-state rivals. Right-hander Brett Wallach (3-0, 2.81 ERA) is scheduled to start against lefty Evan Crawford (3-1, 2.75). Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.

The game will be carried live on ESPN 100.9-FM and online at Loons.com.
