Kane County Cougars News Release
CLINTON, Iowa - The Kane County Cougars got six shutout innings from starter Justin Marks and led 2-0 after 5 1/2 innings Sunday afternoon, but it was not enough to snap their losing streak. They dropped their season-worst fifth straight game with a 4-3 defeat against the Clinton LumberKings. The Cougars are 1-6 on their eight-game road trip and four games under .500.
Marks posted his second quality start, scattering seven hits and forcing the L'Kings to strand seven runs during his time on the hill. He walked one and fanned five, leaving with a 2-0 lead and settling for a no-decision. The Cougars grabbed the game's first run with a Mike Gilmartin RBI single in the fifth. Then in the sixth Rashun Dixon doubled, took third on a bunt and scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
Kyle Christensen (0-2) took over for Marks and yielded one run in the seventh. He left in the eighth with two on and two outs, and Jose Guzman gave up a two-run triple to Daniel Carroll and an RBI single to Gabriel Noriega. Down, 4-2, the Cougars managed an unearned run in the ninth off Myrio Richard's RBI single before Brandon Josselyn wrapped up his sixth save. Taylor Stanton (4-2) pitched eight innings to record the victory.
The Cougars (20-24) conclude the eight-game trip Monday night at 6:30 CT. Anvioris Ramirez will make his '10 Cougars debut, and Clinton (22-20) will counter with Erasmo Ramirez (2-2, 2.43). The game will be broadcast online at www.kccougars.com with pregame coverage starting at 6:15 p.m.
