Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - It was home bittersweet home for Cedar Rapids, as the Kernels lost 5-3 in their first game back from a 10-game road trip.

Cedar Rapids (17-22) hit two home runs in the game, courtesy of Frasier Hall and Wendell Soto, but it was Kane County's (22-18) long-ball that changed the game.

The Cougar's Emilio Bonifacio, the Midwest League's leader in batting average and hits, hit a 2-run home run to tie the game in the 6th inning. Subsequently, three straight Kane County singles pushed the game to its final score.

The Kernels were up 2-0 after the first frame when Ryan Jones tripled and scored a run on a Kaleb Cowart groundball out, followed by Frazier Hall's 3rd home run of the season.

In a 2-1 game in the 5th inning, Wendell Soto hit his 3rd home run of the year to extend the Cedar Rapids lead. The left-handed hitter took a ball the opposite way off of Aaron Brooks over the short porch in left field.

Mike Clevinger took the loss for the Kernels despite a solid outing. Clevinger (1-1) pitched 6.0 innings and struck out 5, but allowed 9 hits. Aaron Brooks (3-4) earned the win for Kane County.
