
Captains Win Fifth Straight

Lake County Captains News Release
(SOUTH BEND, IN) - The Captains scored four times with two outs in the fourth inning. At the time it made the score 5-1 Lake County. With two outs, Alex Lavisky beat out a infield single and then Robel Garcia walked putting runners on second and third base. Zach MacPhee tripled down the right field line and that cleared the bases. The score was 3-1. Luigi Rodriguez then doubled to left center field and scored Macphee. It was 4-1. Rodriguez scored on the Francisco Lindor double and the score was 5-1. The Captains won their fifth straight game on Wednesday night. The final was 5-2. The Captains now stand at 20-19 and are over .500 for the first time since April 10th when they were 3-2.
The Captains scored first. In the top of the third inning, Rodriguez singled to lead off. Luigi promptly stole his 11th base of the season when he swiped second. Rodriguez was moved to third on a groundout. Rodriguez raced for the plated and scored on a wild pitch. It was 1-0 Captains.
In the bottom half of the third South Bend evened the score. The big hit in the inning was a triple by Chris Ellison who tripled to the right center field gap. That chased home Ender Inciarte who walked from first base to even things at 1-1.
In the eighth, the Silver Hawks added a run. Marc Bourgeois doubled with two outs. He scored on the third single of the day by catcher Fidel Pena. That made the score 5-2 Captains
The Silver Hawks sent RHP Jesse Darrah (3-2) to the hill. Darrah took the loss for South Bend it was his second loss of the season. Darrah pitched four innings allowing seven hits all five runs were earned he walked three and struck out one. The bullpen took over and held the Captains scoreless from the fifth inning on.
LHP Shawn Morrimando (1-0) got the win for the Captains. Morrimando pitched five innings and scattered four hits allowed one run and it was earned. Shawn walked one and struck out six. Francisco Valera entered in the sixth and worked two scoreless innings. Valera gave up three hits but he also fanned three Silver Hawks. Manny Carmona entered in the eighth inning and gave up an earned run, he struck out one in his inning of work. Jeff Johnson entered in the ninth and earned his sixth save of the season. Johnson worked a scoreless ninth and faced four batters.
The Captains will continue quick three game road trip in South Bend, Indiana. This is the first series of the season between the Captains and the Silver Hawks. The Captains will send RHP Felix Sterling (2-1,2.81) to the mound against RHP Tyler Green (0-2, 3.43) for South Bend. Game time is scheduled for 10:35 AM.
