CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A four-run sixth inning highlighted by Jorge Bonifacio's game-tying, two-run homer helped the Kane County Cougars knock off the Cedar Rapids Kernels in a 5-3 victory on Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Bonifacio's blast came with Danny Mateo aboard in the top of the sixth inning off Michael Clevinger (1-1), who didn't even allow a hit until the fourth. With the game tied at 3-3, Michael Antonio doubled and scored on a bloop base hit by Dean Espy to give the Cougars (22-18) their first lead of the contest. Espy scored on a Tim Ferguson single to cap the four-run frame.

Aaron Brooks (3-4) made it through seven innings as he limited the Kernels (17-22) to three runs on five hits. Cedar Rapids scored a pair in the first as Ryan Jones tripled and scored on a Kaleb Cowart groundout. Frazier Hall cracked a solo homer to make it 2-0. Wendell Soto homered in the fifth for the Kernels, but they weren't able to score again.

Malcolm Culver (S, 1) relieved Brooks in the eighth and worked around the first two batters reaching on a single and an error. Culver put together a perfect bottom of the ninth while striking out three in his two innings.

The Cougars stay on the road Thursday night when they battle the Kernels from Veterans Memorial Stadium at 6:30. Left-hander Scott Alexander (2-2) starts for the Cougars against righty Jairo Diaz (1-4).
